Benefits of Juice

I have mentioned before that I am trying to get a little healthier.  Earlier today I mentioned my Homemade Pizzas that are under 300 Calories and in trying to keep in the spirit of being a little healthier I am trying to kick my soda habit, but it isn't going so well.  In my journey to stop drinking as much soda I have been trying different drinks. I have not yet been able to embrace the whole diet soda idea as it does not taste good to me. I have been drinking a tons more water and Juice (mostly orange and apple) and lemonades.  I am enjoying these drinks and found that I even like Cranberry Juice.  What benefits do you see of changing over to Juice?  I was looking at the sugar content and it is pretty high in Juice.  I think where I will be benefiting is having no carbonation or caffeine.  So even though the sugar factor will be there I will be doing something a little bit better by not drinking soda.  There are a lot of healthier juices out there that I haven't tried but do look interesting.  Have you heard of the mangosteen fruit?  I haven't till now - there is a fruit juice with mangosteen.  The mangosteen benefits look pretty good, anyone tried it?

Another drink I have really been enjoying is Smoothies - especially with the hot summer around the corner I can see myself making a lot of these.  I like to play with different flavors and have found a recipe I really like that I would like to share with you:

Strawberry, Raspberry, Lemonade and OJ Smoothie

Ingriedients

5 Strawberries
1/4 Orange Juice Concentrate
1/2 container of Raspberry yogurt
1/2 cup of Lemonade
4 Ice Cubes (not pictured) :)

Wash and cut up the strawberries!
Put Strawberries in blender and add 1/4 frozen Orange Juice concentrate

Add 1/2 of the yogurt (I used a little less then 1/2)
Add 1/2 cup lemonade and 4 ice cubes (ice cubes are not pictured)

Blend (please ignore my pile of books behind the blender)
Pour in a glass and enjoy with another strawberry - there even a little bit left to have another glass if you want!

This turns out so yummy!  It has a nice berry flavor from the Strawberries and raspberry yogurt and has a little zing from the OJ and Lemonade.

In case you are wondering about the calories here goes:

5 medium strawberries - 50 calories
1/4 cup Frozen OJ Concentrate - 110 calories
1/2 container of Raspberry Yogurt - 85 calories
1/2 cup Lemonade - 55 calories
4 Ice Cubes - 0 calories

Total Calories - 300

Enjoy!

  1. Hi, stopping by from UBP! That smoothie looks so good. I used to eat/drink a lot of smoothies. I haven't been lately because I'm on the GAPS diet, but they were yummy!

  2. Hi, found you through the UBP12. Love your site's name. And as someone who's trying to get healthy and find healthier ways to eat, these smoothies have my name all over them. And I can relate to the trouble of trying to find something to drink that's lower in calories/sugar and still tastes good. I'm not sure there even is such a creature. haha But do be careful of drinking too much juice because that can lead to problems too. (high acid throws a woman's PH balance off) Thanks for recipes and I look forward to spending some time here once this crazy blog hopping stops!

  4. Be careful with all fruit smoothies. Try substituting plain yogurt and lemon juice. You would be shocked at how that will drop the calorie count and the whopping high sugar count.

I dilute my juice a lot...actually, I fill a bottle up with mostly water and then add a splash of juice for flavor
I also really like the soda stream... I carbonate water and add a little juice to that it even crystal light.
Try juicing fruit and veggies... I juice spinach, broccoli, celery, cucumber, pineapple and apple. Its good and great for u. .. also try plain fat free Greek yogurt in ur smoothie with agave nectar in place of the other stuff in ur smoothie. A lot less sugar and more protein. I have lost 14 pounds in 6 weeks doing this stuff... good luck. :-)
