Sour Chocolate…

If you were to tell me that Chocolate can be sour I would think you were a bit nuts.  After my visit to Caputo’s Deli and learning all about chocolate in there Chocolate tasting class (class info)  my viewpoint has changed.  In this fun class I learned about how chocolate is made, how to tell good chocolate from poorly made chocolate, the proper way to “taste” your chocolate and a bunch of other fun things.  Caputo’s shared this great infographic to help with your own chocolate experience

The first piece of dark chocolate we tasted was a store brand – it was fine, pretty much what my taste buds are used to.  But the next piece of dark chocolate I tasted had me surprised.  This chocolate was called Patric 75% Madagascar and was sour and acidic!  Like my cheeks were puckering up.  It was very odd.  Throughout the night I tried a variety of chocolates from sour, fruity, bitter and a bit woodsy.  I have to admit – there were some I really did not like – but others that were very interesting that I had to take another taste to make sure what I was tasting.  It was a very interesting experience.
Caputo’s sent us home with a nice assortment of chocolates – I thought they were very generous  100_4157
For fun I bought this deep milk chocolate with Hickory smoked bacon – I thought my kids would get a kick out of it.

It was a fun time of learning, eating and enjoying others.  Thanks Caputo’s Deli!
